SAP ERP Software was implemented as part of a wider business transformation project involving participants from all areas of FGW collaborating to streamline end to end business processes to achieve cost and efficiency savings
An initial successful pilot project was run within a small sub factory within the Larne estate for SAP Logistics modules: Sales and Distribution [SD], Materials Management [MM] and Production Planning [PP] with raw material book stock for 1 genset product line
SAP SD, MM and PP were then switched on for Bay C (1 of 6 Assembly lines within the main Larne factory building) – This was a disaster due to bad data and lack of training
The software side of the project was paused at this point and the project team spent more than a year process mapping, root cause analysing issues then training staff in the concepts of MRP (Pull and Push) before a 2nd successful Bay C roll out
This was followed by successful roll outs for the 4 remaining assembly lines in the Larne factory
Monkstown and Springvale feeder plants which are heavily machine oriented were designed, implemented and tested in parallel with the assembly plant roll outs
Finally, the Design to Order Solutions business was implemented
Once M3 was completed, SAP was continually enhanced and developed to automate further parts of the Integrated Business Planning Process for all departments within the Group
